Spencer House Inn

Spencer House Inn (St. Marys, Georgia) says “Come Grow With Us”.  After more than 25 rewarding years in the hospitality business, the owners of Spencer House Inn have decided to pass the torch.

While the world is experiencing a transition to a new normal, the timing for new Owners is perfect. With the low interest rates, some data trends are showing that a significant amount of built up desire to travel will positively influence the hospitality industry and the amount of demand will exceed supply which will mean an increase in occupancy. Further data from travel analysts show that among the tourists ready to travel, they prefer to stay at smaller, luxury properties. Spencer House Inn fits that profile as a member of Select Registry, a diverse collection of independent, boutique properties that deliver a level of personalized service and a quality experience only a select few independent properties can attain. Furthermore, this historic B&B is consistently awarded top honors by travel professionals, hospitality organizations and guests alike.

St. Marys, Georgia is a southeast coastal village just 9 miles east of Interstate 95 and 3 miles from Florida with the picturesque St. Marys River as the border between the states – what a great location! St. Marys is also the gateway to Cumberland Island National Seashore, a national park landmark teeming with history, charm and plenty of room for year round outdoor activities and adventures.

Two significant announcements during 2020 make this a banner year for St. Marys, with unlimited possibilities for Spencer House Inn to be a part of.

First, Jacoby Development, Inc., owned by Jim Jacoby, specializes in environmentally conscious developments and they have announced a joint venture project with the Camden County Joint Development Authority, the City of St. Marys and Camden County. The former Gilman Paper Company mill, a 722-acre site, which will now be known as Cumberland Inlet, will be transformed. Plans for a multi-use property, which would be developed in phases, would include commercial, office and retail space, a deep-water marina, boat storage, park and greenspace areas, residential properties plus a world class rookery which currently attracts native and migratory wildlife throughout the year.

Second, a major renovation is coming to the U.S. Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, located in St. Marys. As the east coast home to the Ohio-class fleet of submarines and in preparation for the 2028 arrival of the Columbia-class fleet, Kings Bay will undergo an $840 million renovation. This extensive expansion and renovation will include docks and dry dock facilities plus training facilities and require an estimated 1000 civilian workers relocating to the area.

The future of St. Marys, Georgia, is as bright as a sunny day on the beach on Cumberland Island. Spencer House Inn looks forward to sharing with its new Owners plus their guests, new and returning, the historic charm of St. Marys plus the plentiful opportunities for outdoor adventures the area has to offer.
