First, Jacoby Development, Inc., owned by Jim Jacoby, specializes in environmentally conscious developments and they have announced a joint venture project with the Camden County Joint Development Authority, the City of St. Marys and Camden County. The former Gilman Paper Company mill, a 722-acre site, which will now be known as Cumberland Inlet, will be transformed. Plans for a multi-use property, which would be developed in phases, would include commercial, office and retail space, a deep-water marina, boat storage, park and greenspace areas, residential properties plus a world class rookery which currently attracts native and migratory wildlife throughout the year.
Second, a major renovation is coming to the U.S. Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, located in St. Marys. As the east coast home to the Ohio-class fleet of submarines and in preparation for the 2028 arrival of the Columbia-class fleet, Kings Bay will undergo an $840 million renovation. This extensive expansion and renovation will include docks and dry dock facilities plus training facilities and require an estimated 1000 civilian workers relocating to the area.

The Spencer House Inn, a 10,000 ft2 property built in 1872, is located in the heart of the St. Marys Historic District and is nine miles east of I-95, halfway between Savannah and St. Augustine. Restaurants, shops, museums, outfitter, bike rental and the ferry to Cumberland Island National Seashore are all within a short walk from the Inn.
Popular for guests is an adventure to the beautiful, undeveloped and pristine Cumberland Island, Georgia’s southern most barrier island. The island is on the Colonial Coast Birding Trail and National Geographic Traveler magazine voted the island as having “one of the best wild beaches.”
